Meet The Bread Lady
She is Elizabeth Degener, #TheBreadLady at 32 years old! Elizabeth grew up on her Great-Grandparents farm, Efin Farms in West Cape May. Her Great Grandfather, a WWII Navy Vet, thought he would return to North Carolina to raise a family. Her Great Grandmother had other plans... She fell in love with Cape May, can you blame her? They bought the 22 acres land in 1940 and named it "At Last", or in Belgium, "Efin". Elizabeth is fourth generation and if you asked her 8 years ago when she returned from study abroad in Dublin, with her summers on a farm in Germany, that she would open up a side stand on her road...she would says, "No Way!" Now Elizabeth has been nominated by the James Board Foundation as one of 20 "#OutstandingBakers" nationwide and was a finalist for the 2017 Restaurant and Chef Awards!
People line up for almost more than an hour before Elizabeth arrives to unload her cloth-lined baskets of still warm, aromatic #bread from her truck. There are 17 different flavors and a 100 loaves in total for the customers/fans waiting patiently for the love that Elizabeth has baked for them. An amazing experience to witness, a true entrepreneur story that shows a continuum a family, community and passion. Thank you Elizabeth and I will make myself known next time I visit, as I am so impressed and overwhelmed with your journey.
Cheers to you Bread Lady, Bake On!
